ABOUT
ME

So ... apparently
you want to know some boring details about me? Here
you go *g*:
I was born
on 29th March 1968 (this is the sign of Aries,
for those of you who are interested in astrology
- I'm not, particularly, but I recently came across
a large astrology site while surfing, and I must
admit that some of the things said about that sign
seem to match my personality quite a bit *laugh*
- oh dear! I am not *that* insensitive!!! *g*) in
Wedel, a suburb
of Hamburg,
which makes me a true dyed-in-the-wool Northern
German person ;-)
I grew up in
Elmshorn and
moved ("back" *g*) to Hamburg in 1992. Here I reside now, together with my wonderful husband Steve. We moved to Schnelsen in 2008 (away from Eilbek which was my home area ever since '92, but nasty neighbours made us flee) and have found a great apartment and quite possibly the best and most fun neighbours one can wish for :)
I work for SHARP Microelectronics Europe,
in the New Business Development department
for the European market which I enjoy quite a bit. My work includes a lot of communication
with our foreign offices and Japan
- thus approx. 90% of my work happens to be in English.

Apart from
all the other things I listed below, I like reading (fave
author at the moment: Charles deLint), love doing long walks
(preferrably on the seaside) and riding my bike (in the
summer *g*). I enjoy going to the cinema (I rather go out
instead of just watching a video at home, 'cause I like the
atmosphere) and to pubs once in a while (depending on the
company *g*).
I must admit that I really love going
shopping - especially together with my friends ;-) Having a look here, having a look there ... I like
looking for extraordinary silver jewellery (mainly focussed
on interesting rings or pendants with gemstones) and clothes
- this does not mean that I always buy them
*g*
I like good
food, but although I basically enjoy cooking, I rarely do it
... it's a time thing, I'm afraid. Oh ... and I *love*
icecream :) Just don't like being photographed
while eating it *laugh*.
I won't rave
about music here and now ... there's other pages where I do
that. But normally, it would be on 1st position on my list
:)
Things I still
want to do in my life? Skydiving would be one of them,
as is recording a solo album one day. Also, I would love to have a dog again ... I really miss having one in my life, after all I grew up with dogs.
However, as long as I'm out of the house working all day this has to stay a dream.

TRAVELLING
 |
|
|
|
 |
|
My life seems
to have been a constant journey during the last 13 years
;-). No - really, I love travelling VERY much, although
I must admit that I've not done a lot of travels in the
usual sense (like Spritey
- she has seen a lot more of the world than I have, go
find some fun photos
on her page!)
I tend to travel
around to visit friends and music conventions. "Around"
meaning: throughout Germany, but also to the US, Canada
and England :-)
To be more specific, destinations in the last years have
been New York, Boston, Toronto, San Francisco, Columbus
OH (ok, can't really count that, as we just saw the hotel
and an ice cream parlour *g*), Ann Arbor and various places
in Great Britain.
Other journeys
and holidays included Basel (Switzerland), Paris (France), |
|
Henne Strand,
Horsens/Søvind and Harboøre (Denmark - I
LOVE it), Tanum Strand (Sweden), Malta and Fuerteventura.
Within Germany,
I'm almost constantly on the road, or
the rail. I'm rarely home at weekends.
Which is why although I love travelling, I really hate
packing / unpacking stuff, as I do it a lot.
*sigh*
Places I'd
really like to see someday include Egypt (Katy's silly
dream of a helicopter flight along the Nile river *g*),
the Whitsunday Islands (ok, I *know* there are sharks
in the Great Barrier Reef, but anyway :)), Iceland, Peking,
Australia / New Zealand and lots more of the US and Canada. |

COMPUTER STUFF and
TECHIE TOYS
 |
|
|
|
 |
|
During my early
and very active fandom years I somehow inherited the job
as layout person in a Star Trek club. Which is,
I typeset and layouted (and edited ...) the (at that time)
60 pages club fanzine every two months, using Adobe PageMaker.
In three out of six years I was the only person who could
do it - later I got co-layouters, thank goodness :-) It
was a LOT of work but those were fun times as well. I
loved doing layout work and I believe that I still have
talent for it. Our club saw some really good years from
92 to 96 or so, and some of the friendships from that
time still last.
In 97, I gave
up all my work in ST fandom and started focussing on my own
interests, mainly filk music (also due to the fact that we
started organizing the FilkCONtinental
conventions from '97 on ...). Since then, I've been fiddling
around with HTML, CSS,
Java and lateron also Photoshop.
My
liking for layout now gets used for designing web pages (Yooh's and Katy's
pages, the "filk.de"
homepage, Robert
Vogel's journalist page, the homepage of the "Clan of the Amazons" and
others), although I must admit that I prefer the clear
design without too many animations and flash thingies and
such. Some people might find it boring, but I can live with
that ;-) |
|
After all,
the most important thing is that people get to see what's on
the page and not have to stay out because their browser
cannot handle all these fancy things ... isn't
it?
Apart from
spending a lot of time in front of the computer
and on the net, I have another neat techie toy,
which I wouldn't want to miss anymore - my SHARP
Zaurus. Ok, working for this company certainly
helped cuz I got it cheaper :)
And as if all
this weren't embarrassing enough: I also own a Nintendo
64 - honestly, I just bought it because I wanted to
play the newest version of Donkey Kong which I had loved
so much when playing it on my friends SNES in earlier
years ;-) I have a faible for these (kids') jump'n run
and adventure games (like Banjo-Kazooie / Banjo-Tooie
and Zelda ;-)). Latest interest also includes Dance Dance
Revolution, though.
As for my PC
... well, I work with Windows machines at the moment - so
dull, ain't I? *g* I would love to have a Mac, though. Maybe
one day ... if I win the lottery or stop spending so much
money on other things ... |

DRAGONS
 |
|
|
|
 |
|
I've always
liked dragons. They
are not evil, no way. They are wise and wonderful creatures
- actually, the movie Dragonheart painted with Draco exactly
the dragon picture I had in mind - maybe not with the looks
of the dragon but definitely regarding his behaviour. (Well
- Draco having Sean Connery's voice certainly helped to make
him more loveable *g*) So, I always
liked them, but I never consciously collected
them.
Can't really
remember when it started. You know, these things just
happen. You see something and just *know* "this is MINE" :-)
There was this fantastic silver dragon sculpture designed by
Michael Whelan, in a Franklin
Mint catalogue I had received. I fell in love with it. I
HAD to buy it. It was expensive, oh my, but I just didn't
care ;-)
There are some more dragons in that series. Robert
bought one of them for himself, and then another one for
me ... and then another one for himself.

There's dragons
in all shades from silver (Dragon!) via light silvery
blue (Lord of the Icy Realm) via blue (Guardian of the
Skies) via blue green (Guardian of the Treasure) to green
(Guardian of the Raging Water). The silver and the green
one reside in my house, blue and blue-green are at his
place. We planned to unite them one day, but sometimes
life goes different ways from what was planned, so my
dragons will have their own showcase now.
Another
weakness are Pocket
Dragons (by Real Musgrave) - but as a lot of them are
sorta *too* cute for my taste, I only collected a few of
them, the ones with musical
instruments, some with cookies
and pies *g* and the travellers
:) And then there's those two
fellas who found their way into my home.
There are a few retired ones that I'm still looking
for, and also, some of the new dragons
caught my attention and might be added to my collection one
day *smile* |

FANTASY / MEDIEVAL
REENACTMENT
 |
|
|
|
 |
|
So many
interests - so little time. This hobby is the one that has
been the most neglected during the last two years. Actually,
it seems to be the direct victim of my increasing filk
activities ...
I am a (though not terribly active anymore) member
of the fantasy club FOLLOW (which stands for
"Fellowship of the Lords of the Lands of Wonder" - so there
;-)
Having had a
not so convincing "first contact" with FOLLOW in 1994/95, I
only decided much later (end of '96) that I liked to become
an aspirant for the clan of the "Amazons". (yeah, guys,
I see you grinning!) This had mainly to do with the fact
that I knew (and liked) their Lady and most of their
members. In 1997 I received member status, together with
Yooh who had quit the "Brotherhood of the Wise" to become an
amazon as well.

(I'm just
imagining my dad - should he ever read these pages, he'd
probably be in hysterics by now *g*)
Once in a
while, I join my ex-musical group who are now known as "Die
Hayden" and are very actively engaged with medieval
reenactment, mostly you will find them at markets of the "Fogelvreien". They do have quite an impressive
"Heerlager" (viking camp) by now, with four tents, an
awning, a harness and a forge.
It is wonderful to
join them for a day, to help my friend Kerstin to prepare
medieval food and sit around the fire in the evening, with a
good wine or mead ;-)
You can see lots of details of their activities
(photos of the markets, recipes, sewing instructions for
shoes, building instructions for tents and lots more,
unfortunately only in German language) on their homepage.
